Spanners in the works

There's been a hiatus as I recovered from a not-quite-fall a few weeks ago.

I was running down a trail and stood on a loose rock that moved under my foot.  Recovering from that without actually going over, I pulled something behind my right knee.  This has seen me on only commuter cycling.

I was pretty much ready to get started on running again but had to have a minor operation.  This means another few weeks with no strenuous exercise as spikes in bllod pressures/heart rate would be "Bad."

Lots of walking to do then for the time being.

Taking it carefully.

A week after I pulled something in the back of the knee, things are improving but I'm not going to aggravate matters.

A little cycling and walking is all that's on the cards for the moment.  And it's driving me mad...

Double the hills, Double the fun!

Had a nice easy 6k yesterday after the Thursday session.  Today, I wanted to push out the distance a little but staying on the hills so I essentially repeated the hilly part of my 6k run turning it into a 9k with almost 250m of vertical.  I think the new firmware on the Fenix has made a huge improvement to the accuracy of the map plot.

This was pretty much as tough as I expected.  I still have to run-walk the ascent although the proportion of walking continues to shrink.  On the second descent, I stepped on a rock and nearly had a fall.  Fortunately I recovered but, in doing so, overstretched the muscles at the back of my right knee.

At a minimum, I'll take tomorrow off as I have already exceeded the 20 mile target I had for the week.

Session #3 with Stroud AC

Way of the back of the pack still but that's not what's important.  Knocked over 10 seconds off my best lap from last week which is really nice.  I know these improvements are going to come "easy" at this stage and the gains will be more marginal over time.  It's still really nice to see, though.

All of which means that the new Garmin is working well and I was easily able to control it to record the efforts in the session.  I don't notice the weight of the watch any more unless I put the steel strap on it.

I'm starting to get to know a few people at the club and it's lovely to be running with such a friendly bunch.

A rare London run.

I don't usually run while I'm away.  Not that I can't, not that it's difficult.  I'm just adept at finding excuses.

Made a proper effort this time and went out across Leyton marshes (between the Reservoirs at Walthamstow and the Hackney marshes).  I found it harder than I expected on the back of yesterday so I kept the distance down to about 6k.  This was not a quick session.

Yesterday morning, the Fenix got a firmware update.  I don't know if it's related but getting a GPS fix was much faster and the GPS track seemed to wobble less than before.  It'll be interesting to see if there's a difference on routes that I know well.
